Previsualization takes us beyond the classroom.

AET 344D: 3D Previsualization for Live Entertainment

This course introduces students to previsualization workflow. Students work primarily inside Vectorworks to design, draft, and model an original venue for live performance. Enhanced lighting, video “walk through” renders, and client pitch are all components of this course.

Over the course of a semester, students complete five project milestones including:

  • 2D Drafting - Groundplan

  • 3D Drafting - 3D Model

  • 3D Drafting - Textures

  • Enhanced Previsualization - lighting and “walk through” render

  • Client Pitch

Throughout each of the above milestones, students must continue to articulate and refine their vision for their live performance venue. Students present their work to the class at each of the above milestones, receiving formative feedback from the instructor, as well as their fellow classmates. Honest, open dialogue, often facilitated by constructive criticism guides each of these class discussions. The majority of students enrolled in this class have little to no prior Vectorworks experience.
